Mother killed by a mine at her doorway in al-Shaqb

What happened

A woman was killed by a landmine at the front door of her family home in al-Shaqb in February 2022. Her child described the incident to Human Rights Watch and said the father was killed by another mine while farming a month later.

Human Rights Watch documented the incident in its al-Shaqb investigation, citing residents who said Houthi forces planted mines in and around homes and farms. Attribution rests on residents’ accounts of mining in the area, not identification of the person who laid this particular device.
