What happened
A landmine killed a farmer in al-Shaqb in February 2021 when he returned to his farm. His daughter told researchers that he had continued working the land because it provided his income and had not expected mines there.
Human Rights Watch documented the incident in its al-Shaqb investigation, citing residents who said Houthi forces planted mines in and around homes and farms. Attribution rests on residents’ accounts of mining in the area, not identification of the person who laid this particular device.
